The Future of Trading Card Trading

SlabAsset is not an anonymous marketplace, but a long-term project by a passionate collector who wants to redefine the European market for graded trading cards – with transparency, specialization, and passion.

The Founder

My name is Danny Nothdurft

As a developer and passionate collector, I've often been frustrated with existing platforms: eBay is cluttered and confusing, Cardmarket lacks proper filters for graded cards, and the big US platforms come with high shipping costs and customs issues for European collectors. This frustration was the trigger for SlabAsset.

After losing my job, I decided to put all my energy into this project. SlabAsset is not born out of a business plan, but from genuine passion for the hobby and the desire to make it better for all collectors.

I develop the platform entirely on my own – from the first line of code to the infrastructure. This guarantees control over every decision and allows me to build exactly what collectors really need. Every idea and feedback from the community is taken into account: if a suggestion fits, it gets implemented.

The Challenge

Why does Europe need SlabAsset?

The current market for graded cards is fragmented, inefficient, and unfriendly to collectors. European collectors have to work with systems that weren't designed for them.

  • eBay: cluttered with ads, unclear listings, distraction by auctions
  • Cardmarket: no specific filters for graded cards, tedious individual checking
  • US platforms: high shipping costs, customs issues, inconvenient time zones
  • No platform: graded cards are nowhere the main focus

The Solution

  • Specialized platform only for graded cards
  • Clear, transparent listings without distractions
  • EU-focused with local payment methods
  • User-friendly filters for quick finding
  • Complete documentation of each card
Clear Distinction

What SlabAsset is not

SlabAsset is deliberately not everything for everyone. This clear focus distinguishes us from existing marketplaces and guarantees the best possible experience for collectors.

Not an auction house

No short-term price pressure from time limits. Fixed, fair prices for predictable transactions.

Not a general marketplace

No mixing with countless other products. Focus only on graded cards.

Not a US platform

No customs issues, no high shipping costs, no complicated tax questions for EU collectors.

Not a side product

Graded cards are not a feature among many – they are the heart of the platform.

Our Principles

What we stand for

These principles guide every decision in the development of SlabAsset.

Transparency

No hidden costs, no anonymous company. We communicate openly about plans and progress.

EU-First

Developed specifically for European collectors with a focus on local needs and legal certainty.

Honesty

No dark patterns, no misleading offers. What you see is what you get.

Quality

Stability and reliability before rapid growth. We build for the long term.

Market Analysis

The European Trading Card Market

While the European market for trading cards is growing strongly, there is a structural gap: there is no specialized platform for graded cards.

US platforms like Goldin or PWCC dominate the premium sector, but they come with high costs and logistical hurdles for European collectors.

At the same time, general marketplaces like eBay and Cardmarket are not designed for the specific needs of graded card collectors – leading to inefficient processes and lack of comparability.

The Challenges

  • Fragmented offers across different platforms
  • No standardized listing formats for graded cards
  • High import costs and customs duties on US purchases
  • Lack of market transparency and comparability
  • Time-consuming research for individual cards

Our Approach

Philosophy Behind the Platform

Two perspectives, one goal: the best possible experience for collectors of graded cards.

Technical Philosophy

SlabAsset is built from scratch – without legacy code, without dependencies on outdated marketplace systems.

Every feature arises from a real use case and is not implemented just because it exists on other platforms.

Performance, security, and transparency come before short-term features. We build for stability and long-term growth.

Content Philosophy

Graded cards deserve their own stage. They are not an accessory, but the core of the platform.

Every card should be presented in a comprehensible, comparable, and transparent way. No hidden details, no vague condition descriptions.

The goal is to build trust not through marketing, but through structure and clarity. Authenticity over algorithms.

Long-term Vision

Own Grading – More Than Just a Number

Grading means responsibility. That's why our own grading system is not a short-term feature, but a long-term vision.

The goal is a system that not only delivers a final grade, but fully documents the evaluation: edges, corners, surface, centering – with clear images and traceable criteria.

Supplemented by a clear history, optional slab formats, and long-term comparability, this creates a European alternative with better documentation and greater transparency.

The Vision in Detail:

  • Detailed individual assessments of all criteria
  • High-resolution images from all perspectives
  • Transparent grading history
  • Optional slab formats for different needs

The Overarching Vision

SlabAsset aims to become a central hub for graded trading cards in Europe.

Not as an aggressive competitor, but as a specialized alternative with a clear focus and high quality.

In the long term, the platform will create market transparency, connect collectors, and finally make graded cards tradable in a fair and organized way.

Personal Commitment

SlabAsset is not a side project or a short-term experiment.

I stand with my name, my time, and my work fully behind this platform.
